New Album Under Way

I’ve started work on my new album this week. Working title is ‘Return Visit’, and I’ll be re-acquainting myself with some of my older songs. The idea was suggested to me by my friend and former producer Paul Phillips. After I’d completed my last album, Exhibiting Tendencies Paul said as I now have a great studio set-up and am experimenting with so many acoustic sounds and instruments now, he would love to hear some of my older songs given the 2011 treatment by me. I decided to concentrate on those songs which were only ever demo’d, the piano and voice tracks like some of those on ‘Technicolour Biography‘, a couple of the demos which were featured on the ‘Kid In A Big World’ 2003 CD release, and one or two of the songs on the compilation ‘Sketching The Landscape – Demos ’73 -’79′. I’m also looking at songs I recorded ‘live’ for the ‘In The Room Upstairs’ albums, they were written specially for the Manchester shows and were only ever recorded at the gigs with just piano and vocal. It will be fascinating revisiting these ‘old friends’, reapproaching them and discovering new things in the process. I’ve certainly changed with the years, and it’s doubtless they will too! So far, sessions are going well, I’ll keep you posted with how it all goes!
